Markus Hiesleitner
AUTUMN 2025 | October
Markus is an artist, curator, and researcher whose work explores the relationships between nature, place, and community. Working primarily with sculpture, installation, and public space projects, his practice is grounded in long-term observations of the environment, ecology, and rural life. Through his works, Markus examines the transformations of soil, plants, and local communities from both an artistic and ecological perspective.
He studied Sculpture and Performative Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien) and has been one of the founders of the artist initiative Kulturdrogerie since 2005. Alongside his individual practice, he continues to develop collective and public projects that engage with shared spaces and ecological awareness.
Markus has presented exhibitions and installations in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Serbia, and Tunisia, revealing the poetic and critical dimensions of the interaction between humans and nature. Through open-air art projects such as flora pondtemporary and Land Ardagger, he creates sustainable platforms for artistic production in rural environments. 🌿
During his residency at DAA, Markus will explore the memory of nature, the resilience of the landscape, and the traces of human intervention within the geography of Bodrum. His research focuses on listening to, remembering with, and creating alongside nature.
Studio Visit & Conversation with Markus Hiesleitner
Date | October 25, 2025
Location | DAA Art Residency, Bodrum
On Saturday, October 25, DAA Art Residency opened its doors for a studio visit and conversation with our guest artist Markus Hiesleitner.
During the gathering, participants had the opportunity to learn about Markus’s artistic practice, which focuses on the relationship between nature and humanity, and to witness a performance he created using found materials collected from the surrounding landscape.
The encounter invited reflection on our connection with nature, our touch upon it, and the ways in which we coexist within it—offering a moment to listen, observe, and experience together.
